It felt good to get this small project, a 10 1/2 inch block, finished for our retiring quilt guild president.  She requested the theme of “nesting” - as her quilt will be given to a center which offers council for abused women with families. 

Birds had built a nest near my front door in a box of pansies.

I took a photo, then used a clear plastic from a sandwich bag, cut it open and with a fine point marker traced the elements. Then made my pattern and used my technique to build the block on a french used foundation- but this time I did topstitch around the edges without the batting as she will sew the block with others to make her quilt top.
